Tattoo aftercare involves washing, moisturizing, and protecting your tattoo while it heals:

Wash

Wash your tattoo with fragrance-free, antibacterial soap and warm water, and pat dry with a soft cloth. Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.

Moisturize

Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free, alcohol-free moisturizer or tattoo ointment to keep your skin hydrated.

Protect

Avoid picking, scratching, or peeling your tattoo. Keep it out of the sun and avoid swimming for about two weeks. Wear loose, sun-protective clothing or stay in the shade when you go outside. If you must be in the sun, use a high SPF sunscreen on your tattoo.

Avoid alcohol

Avoid drinking alcohol for a few days after getting your tattoo. Alcohol can thin your blood, which can lead to excess bleeding and further damage.

Hydrate

Drink plenty of water to help your skin heal from the inside out.

Wear clean clothing

Wear clean, soft clothing over your tattoo for the first two weeks.

Remove bandage

Remove the bandage within 1–2 hours after getting your tattoo. Do not re-bandage.

Wrap

On the first night, you may want to wrap your tattoo in saran wrap to prevent sticking to your bedding.

The healing time for a tattoo can vary depending on the size, location, and intricacy of the design. In general, it should take around two to three weeks for the surface of the tattoo to heal, but complete healing beneath the skin can take up to four to six months.
